Acoustic insulation can be categorised by its application as either structural or technical. Structural acoustic insulation is primarily concerned with reducing airborne noise or vibrations transferring through cavities and voids. In doing so, it absorbs and reduces sounds as they passes through a structure, reducing noise pollution. Techncial acoustic insulation works in much the same way, but is instead related to reducing noise and vibrations in HVAC, process industries, marine construction, automotives and engineering. By the nature of these applications, more specialist products are required.
